Within DAF, a large number of cost-reduction projects are currently being executed in the chassis domain, especially related to axle and cab suspension systems. Your role is to technically assess cost reduction and supplier selection projects and determine their feasibility – both from a vehicle integration and supplier capability perspective.

These parts are critical for vehicle handling, durability, and safety, and involve axle suspension knowledge, manufacturing processes, DFSS, and strong supplier coordination.

Your Responsibilities

In your position as Mechanical Expert your responsibilities are:

• Coordinate the development or supplier reallocation of existing components in close collaboration with internal stakeholders (engineering, purchasing, validation) and external suppliers.
• Translate cost-reduction project goals into robust product requirements.
• Monitor design & validation plans and ensure cost reduction results with timely delivery
• Evaluate manufacturing processes and their impact on costs, product performance and robustness.
• Provide technical recommendations and present feasibility analyses to management.

• Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience in mechanical/hardware engineering within a product development environment.
• Solid understanding of axle suspension systems, vehicle dynamics, or mechanical subsystems.
• Strong analytical skills and hands-on experience with DFSS and problem-solving techniques.
• Experience with cost reduction projects is a plus
• Skilled communicator who can bridge the gap between technical design, supplier discussions, and project management.
• Comfortable managing multiple projects and aligning with cross-functional teams.
• Good command of English; willingness to learn Dutch is a plus.
• Experience in the automotive industry is preferred.
