Functieomschrijving

We are currently seeking an experienced and driven Automation Engineer (BMS/EMS) to join the Execution Systems (MAM-ES) Department at Janssen Biologics BV in Leiden. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of pharmaceutical manufacturing automation in a collaborative, highly professional, and fast-paced environment.

As part of a team of 60 passionate automation professionals, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and supporting cutting-edge Building Management Systems (BMS) and Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS), contributing directly to the production of life-saving medicines.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and installation of the Building Automation System (BAS) and Environmental Monitoring System (EMS – Honeywell), aligned with cGMP standards.
  • Provide expert-level maintenance and ongoing support for BMS systems, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as liaison for external vendors, subcontractors, and system integrators, ensuring smooth and compliant delivery of automation solutions.
  • Manage and coordinate automation change activities within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Develop and execute commissioning protocols, test plans, validation documentation, and system lifecycle deliverables.
  • Review, update, and maintain system documentation, SOPs, and work instructions in compliance with GxP standards.
Functie-eisen
  • A Bachelor’s degree (HBO level) or higher in Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in automation within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • 3+ years of solid experience with modern BMS platforms; Honeywell systems (HC900, EBI R600) and/or Priva experience is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAMP 5, control philosophies, functional specifications, and lifecycle documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and work with instrumentation and control equipment in an industrial setting.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal), Dutch is a Plus.
  • VCA and NEN 3140 certifications (mandatory).
  • A proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative mindset, capable of working independently and as part of a dynamic team.
