Vacatureomschrijving

Worldwide, around 60 to 75 million people work in the clothing industry. 85% are women—most of them young and vulnerable. On average, they work 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, with only a short lunch break, in unsafe and overheated factories without air conditioning. We are doing everything in our power to change this. Do you want to help? As our Financial Coordinator / Controller, you’ll play a key role in strengthening our financial foundation, enabling our international network to campaign effectively for human rights and justice in the supply chain.

The 5 highlights of this role:
📋 You oversee all financial operations of a global campaigning network—grants, budgets, reporting, and financial administration.
🎓 You bring at least 5 years of experience in financial management, with strong knowledge of EU grant compliance and fluent Dutch and English.
💰 €4.580/month (based on 40h) plus 8% holiday allowance and a fully-paid pension plan. All staff earn the same salary.
🌿 Work in a non-hierarchical, purpose-driven team, with hybrid flexibility, travel reimbursement, phone allowance, and 5+ weeks leave.
🌍 Your work enables systemic change in one of the world’s most exploitative industries—helping protect workers' rights around the globe.

What will you do?
As Financial Coordinator / Controller, you ensure that our financial operations run smoothly and are aligned with our mission. You maintain oversight on our grant portfolio and budget implementation, ensure donor compliance, and support strategic decision-making with accurate reporting and financial analysis. You’re the sparring partner for our bookkeeper, grant managers, and project teams. Your responsibilities include:
  • Managing donor & project financial reporting.
  • Preparing and reviewing budgets for new project proposals.
  • Producing financial monitoring reports and forecasts for the board.
  • Overseeing the financial administration (Twinfield system) and ensuring costs are allocated correctly to donors.
  • Reviewing financial reports from partner organisations and grantees.
  • Streamlining financial processes and introducing efficiency improvements.
  • Advising and training staff on financial procedures and donor requirements.
  • Leading budget holder & grant manager meetings.

Where you're going to work?
Our client is the world’s largest alliance of labour unions and NGOs working to improve conditions in the global garment industry. They identify poor working conditions such as low wages, unsafe workplaces, discrimination, and more. In addition, they raise awareness and mobilize consumers; we lobby companies and governments; they organize joint training sessions with workers focused on mutual capacity building; and they run local and global labor rights campaigns. they played, for example, a pivotal role in the establishment of the Bangladesh Accord, a legally binding agreement aimed at improving factory safety.

Their global network includes over 230 trade unions and NGOs in 45 countries, connecting actors across the entire industry to advance their mission. The organisation hosts two teams: the International Office, which facilitates the network and global coordination, and a Dutch team, focusing on campaigning and advocacy in the Netherlands. Together, they are supported by staff in HR, IT, Finance, Grant Management, and Fundraising. Their team of 27 works mainly from their Amsterdam office, with a few colleagues based in Brussels.

They have no executive director—their non-hierarchical structure is based on shared leadership and consensus decision-making. Coordination is managed by a Cross Team Body and they have a flat salary structure: all employees earn the same, regardless of position.

Why work with them?
Your work as Financial Coordinator directly contributes to social justice and labour rights worldwide. We offer:
  • Salary: €4.580 (based on 40h), which means €2.745–€3.660 for 24–32 hours/week plus 8% holiday allowance. Every year, salary is adjusted for inflation.
  • Fully paid pension plan, €36 net phone allowance, general allowance (1% of salary), trade union contribution, commuting cost reimbursement
  • Hybrid working options
  • 25 vacation days + office closed between Christmas and New Year
Ready to join them?
They actively strive for diversity and inclusion in their team. People from underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, so they encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
