Radar Evaluator: The Global Bridge Between Technology and Customer Expectations

Are you the driven technician who can validate advanced radar systems and convince customers of our quality?

As a Radar Evaluator at Thales, you are the key figure ensuring that our high-quality radars do exactly what our customers expect. You work with the system as an end-user would, but in a controlled testing environment. As an operator, you use the radar system, test all functionalities, and form the essential bridge between our development teams and our customers. You not only validate that our systems function technically perfectly but also analyze the data obtained to determine whether a product meets specifications and—more importantly—the expectations of our customers. Your expertise is crucial in guaranteeing the acceptance of our systems in a world where reliable defense technology protects lives.

What will you do?

  • Analyze recorded data from radar tests to assess whether system performance aligns with specifications and customer expectations.
  • Plan and execute extensive tests with real air, weapon, and surface targets.
  • Write detailed evaluation reports that clearly convey complex findings.
  • Conduct failure analysis: identify, classify, and locate problems and propose suitable solutions.
  • Implement and maintain specialized test tools for effective evaluation.
  • Execute and automate complex technical tests at the system and subsystem levels.
  • Develop Factory and Site Acceptance Plans (FAT/SAT) with clearly defined test cases.
  • Translate customer requirements into concrete, executable test procedures.
  • Proactively coordinate with customers about test plans and incorporate their feedback.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact during customer acceptance of systems.
  • Travel worldwide to conduct tests at customer locations.

A typical workweek involves analyzing logged test data, planning and preparing test sessions, consulting with internal teams such as system engineers and software engineers, coordinating with customers, and providing targeted reporting. You are part of a team of 7 Radar Evaluators but primarily collaborate with project-specific teams of system, software, and test engineers in daily practice. You are guided, trained, and supported by experienced colleagues. You act as the indispensable link between the development team and the end-user, combining your in-depth system knowledge with a sharp customer-oriented mindset.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have a university degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Technical Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline; or a bachelor's degree in these fields with relevant work experience.
  • You have proven experience in software development and programming (Matlab, C).
  • You are analytically strong, with both attention to detail and an understanding of the bigger picture.
  • You can translate complex technical concepts into understandable language for various target audiences.
  • You communicate excellently in English, both written and verbally (Dutch big plus).
  • You are willing to travel internationally regularly and work on-site for extended periods.
  • You are results-oriented and resourceful when solving technical challenges.
  • You are motivated to validate defense technology that contributes to global safety.

Experience with radar systems is a strong plus, as well as a background as a (technical) naval officer. Knowledge of defense systems and an understanding of the end-user perspective are particularly valuable in this role. Ultimately, your ability to quickly grasp technical material and think customer-oriented will be decisive.

Important points to consider:

  • This position requires a commitment for several years due to the intense knowledge acquisition.
  • The travel aspect is often, but not always, easy to plan – on average, you will travel one week every two months for testing activities at customer locations.

What's in it for you ?

  • A challenging job in a great team within our high-tech, innovative work environment. Includes the freedom for initiative and good ideas.
  • Room for personal and professional growth within our organization, for example in regards to technical, commercial or international skills.
  • Valuable international collaboration with coworkers from 68 different countries around the globe.
  • A comfortable work space in a modern environment, with a focus on flexibility and the right work life balance.
  • You can usually work where and whenever you want. Within Thales, we aim for a 60/40 balance, where you work from home at least two days a week, when your role allows this.
  • A good salary, fitting travel allowance, and the ability to personalize your employment conditions: for instance, you can trade PTO for internet costs, our bicycle plan, company fitness and relocation costs.
  • 40 days off per year (PTO).
