HEAD OF DISCIPLINE - SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

The Head of Discipline is responsible for inspiring and catalysing the improvement of best practices within Software Engineering Solutions ensuring that they are mastered effectively. You act as a privileged point of contact on complex subjects and take on an educational role so that their team can reach discipline excellence and deliver competitive solutions within a multidisciplinary environment. 

You are a manager-coach serving discipline’s engineers and offering a diverse and inclusive environment with Hungry Humble Aware values. You are the guardian of an engineering discipline excellence in a learning environment which contribute to highly competitive realizations (Quality, Attractiveness, Cost, Lead time). 

You are in charge to ensure the right Software Engineering Skills are available at the right moment to serve projects, and you are responsible to manage and maintain up to date the resources allocation to project.

• You graduated with a Master of Engineering, Computer Science or any other relevant field in University, and you have proven software development experience across different environments

• You want to foster competitiveness and performance improvement

• You love to share knowledge and help people develop themselves, which enables you to be recognized as a great mentor and team-player

COMPETENCIES:

• You are able to empower and unite employees around clear objectives by acting as a coach and servant leader, which mobilizes influencing and “team first” skills

• You have substantial knowledge of Software:

• You are familiar with various operating platforms (i.e. Windows, Linux, Unix…,)

• You have programming skills in [C/C++/Java] and exposure to a wide range of other high-level languages and frameworks (e.g. Python, HTML, CSS, Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, GraphQL)

• Besides your experience with both front-end and back-end development, you are familiar with multithreading & UX/UI design, modelling and simulation tools…,

• You are able to use Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) tools (e.g. Gitlab, Jenkins, Git)

• You know Big Data main technologies

• You always keep in mind security

• You demonstrate a strong desire for continuous improvement and a capacity to develop a strategic vision: you are able to integrate and even anticipate the various elements of your environment in order to guide the team through the challenges prompted by competitiveness

• You know how to adopt a Lean Management approach and apply Agile principles to the management and development of your team, in Scrum and / or Kanban mode

LIFE AS A THALES SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS - DISCIPLINE MANAGEMENT ROLE

As a Software Solutions - Discipline Management Role within Thales, you will:

• Take in charge the Discipline Practices and Tools tailoring and deployment (incl. digitization, automation, data management) across Projects and Products

• Be responsible for the adoption of new technologies

• Ensure the capitalization and sharing of knowledge and assets (building blocks, cost estimating models, best practices, etc.)

• Foster continuous improvement based on root cause analysis, problem solving, new practice deployment, …

• Manage people within your discipline and ensure their development (skills management, coaching, career development, mindset), the adequacy with the expected needs (quality and quantity) at the right time and the allocation to the Bids and Projects

• Perform technical reviews associated with their discipline on Bids/Products and Projects

• Ensure Operational Subject Matter Experts allocate part of their time to coach engineering people and to train people about the Software Solutions activities
