The Company
The client is a global pharmaceutical and medical devices company based in Leiden.

Role Description
We are looking for a skilled Automation Engineer to join the Execution Systems team in Leiden. This role supports the manufacturing site’s automated systems, focusing on implementing and maintaining Siemens PLC/SCADA controls and ensuring GxP compliance. You will work on-site as part of a team of automation professionals, contributing to reliable and efficient production processes in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment

Responsibilities

Designing, implementing, and commissioning changes to Siemens PLC and SCADA systems on manufacturing equipment in coordination with vendors, system owners, and stakeholders.
Overseeing and managing external vendors, subcontractors, and system integrators.
Leading or collaborating on automation changes within a multidisciplinary team.
Preparing, executing, and reviewing test plans, commissioning protocols, and validation documentation for automation systems.
Maintaining and updating life cycle documentation and ensuring accurate technical records.
Creating, revising, and coordinating system-related SOPs and work instructions.

Requirements

A degree in Industrial Automation or a related engineering discipline (minimum HBO level).
2–5 years of relevant experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical sector, with a strong understanding of GAMP guidelines.
At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs (Tia Portal) and Wonderware SCADA systems.
Ability to interpret control philosophies and write functional requirement specifications.
Strong organizational and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.
Familiarity with OSI-PI Historian is a plus.
Solid understanding of P&IDs and control systems in an industrial setting.
Fluent in English (spoken and written).
VCA and NEN 3140 certifications are mandatory.
