We believe in creating positive change for people and the planet. As a Senior Wave Modelling Specialist, you’ll contribute to innovative coastal and offshore projects worldwide—helping shape resilient, sustainable infrastructure in the face of climate change.

Company information

At this international, employee-owned consultancy, you’ll join a team that combines engineering, design, and strategic advisory with cutting-edge software and technology. Guided by the mission “Enhancing Society Together,” the organization is committed to creating meaningful, positive change across the globe.

With more than 140 years of experience and over 6,800 professionals across 25+ countries, this firm delivers purpose-driven work on complex, international projects. Its focus spans sectors such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, industrial decarbonization, and sustainable mobility—partnering with leading clients to turn global challenges into real-world solutions.

As a Senior Wave Modelling Specialist, you will join a dedicated group within the Coastal, River, and Maritime Dynamics team, based in the Netherlands. This team of around 30 skilled and enthusiastic experts is passionate about driving innovation in water- and maritime-related projects. Your primary location will be either the Delft or Amersfoort office, working on forward-thinking initiatives that shape the future of coastlines and water systems worldwide.

Vacancy information

As a Senior Wave Modelling Specialist you will work on innovative and challenging projects in the fields of maritime, coastal engineering and renewable energy.

Examples of projects you will contribute to are:

  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams on the design and development of ports and marinas all over the world. You are responsible for providing specialist input related to design conditions, wave agitation and downtime.
  • Design and development of infrastructure for (offshore) renewable energy, such as offshore wind parks.
  • Developing smart solutions to make coastal areas climate resilient, among others to tropical storms and sea level rise.
  • Your key responsibilities:
  • Serve as technical lead in wave modelling, metocean data analysis, and extreme storm assessments.
  • Execute and supervise modelling using tools like SWAN, SWASH, XBeach, MIKE SW/BW, and D-Flow FM.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level specialists.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of business processes.
  • Besides these project-related activities, you will contribute to optimizing our business processes and to safeguarding and sharing knowledge about your own field.
What do you need

You are an experienced wave modeller with a strong foundation in coastal processes. You are capable of translating complex client challenges into effective modelling strategies and clear, actionable advice.

As a Senior Wave Modeller, you have expertise in coastal processes, including wind, extreme conditions, waves, and currents. You possess skills in metocean data processing, statistics, analysis, wave, and hydrodynamic modelling.

You can select the most appropriate modelling approach for clients' questions, considering accuracy, data, budget, and timelines. You also translate modelling results into design conditions and provide clear advice for clients.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Familiarity with the maritime industry, coastal structures, and offshore renewable energy.
  • Contributing to the expansion of coastal engineering knowledge within Haskoning.
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team and leading a team of specialists.
  • Representing the wave modelling team to clients, both within Haskoning and externally.
  • Sharing experience and expertise with colleagues.
  • Proficiency with state-of-the-art modelling software and online tools related to wave modelling and metocean data

Additionally, you should have:

  • At least 15 years of experience in wave modelling and metocean data analysis.
  • A completed MSc in Coastal Engineering.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.
  • An interest in digitization, innovative ideas, and the willingness to use new software programs or working methods in projects is considered a plus.
