We’re looking for an experienced EHS Engineer who’s ready to take ownership, coach others, and push safety standards to the next level. As part of the Engineering, Validation & Maintenance (EVM) team, you’ll help shape a safe, compliant, and forward-thinking working culture—one that powers innovation in life-saving therapies.

Responsibilities

Act as the subject matter expert for all Environment, Health & Safety activities across the site’s technical operations
Leading, developing, and improving EH&S systems and standards (e.g. LOTOTO, working at height, permit to work)
Coaching and training team members to elevate safety performance
Conducting risk assessments and supporting project teams with EH&S input
Participating in audits and inspections (ISO 14001, audits, government bodies)
Leading or contributing to incident investigations and follow-up actions
Creating and delivering training on EH&S-related topics
Driving sustainable safety improvements aligned national standards

Profile

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
5+ years of experience in EH&S roles, preferably in life sciences, pharma, or similar industries
Experience with ISO standards (especially ISO 14001)
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
A Higher Safety Expert certification (HVK) is a strong plus
Fluent in Dutch and English

Practicalities

Location: Leiden, Netherlands
Start date: June (flexible)
Duration: 12 month, potential for direct permanent contract with thereafter
Languages required: English (spoken and written) & Dutch (preferred)
Employment type: Full-time, no freelancers
