Volledige vacaturetekst

Advising, chemistry, and product safety. This is you in a nutshell. Do you dare to contribute to the development of sustainable chemical products at Haskoning, an independent consultancy, engineering, and project management firm in over 150 countries? Read our vacancy for:

Senior Expert Chemistry and Substance Identification

Your goal as an expert in Chemistry and Substance Identification is to carefully and ethically advise companies and governments on how to responsibly and safely manage the risks of (hazardous) substances and products for humans and the environment. This way, you have a significant impact on our surroundings and the development of sustainable (chemical) products.

How do you do this?

As a chemistry expert in the Center of Expertise Chemical safety, you are involved in or project leader for advisory projects on substances for the chemical industry, sectors, and various authorities, both national and international. This concerns projects for e.g. emissions, minimization and identification of substances of very high concern, waste treatment, regulatory dossier completion, including monitoring physicochemical studies at contract laboratories.

  • With a strong track record and broad experience in Chemistry, regulatory affairs, REACH, and CLP, you contribute to ongoing projects and help shape future services. You also technically coordinate multidisciplinary projects—planning, distributing tasks, and guiding experts across Chemical Safety domains such as toxicology, ecotoxicology, occupational hygiene, and permitting.
  • Maintain close contact with clients and stay attuned to market developments and regulatory changes. You keep the clients informed about the latest implications to their business.
  • Profoundly understand client needs, connecting them with tailored solutions that align with regulatory requirements and support their conditions.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new opportunities, by writing proposals and securing workload to the team.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to develop accurate project forecasts, including a detailed work breakdown structure (i.e. with budgeted hours that are both realistic and aligned with the project’s objectives).
  • Establish efficient and effective project workflows, using your expertise and available resources, and provide clear instructions to the team members.
Where will you work?

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, "Enhancing Society Together," drives us to create a positive impact on the world.

We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society. We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, decarbonisation of industry, and sustainable mobility.

Within the Business Line Industry & Buildings, we offer services, among others, in the field of chemical safety, HSE management, and external and integrated safety. Clients around the world benefit from our innovative approach and successful solutions in realizing their ambitions. If you are accepted for this position, you will become part of the Center of Expertise Chemical Safety where you will work with other chemists, (eco)-toxicologists, occupational hygienists and consultants.

Your flexible work attitude allows you to adapt to changing circumstances and collaborate across various contexts.

You are capable of supervising medior and junior colleagues within your area of expertise, while also taking the lead or contributing as a valuable team member in multidisciplinary project teams. In addition:

  • You hold a university degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a comparable field — ideally complemented by a PhD in a scientific discipline.
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant experience working within the framework of, preferably, REACH legislation and you are proficient in using IUCLID for dossier preparation.
