Volledige vacaturetekst

For the HyGear engineering department we are looking for an intern! The following internships / graduation assignments are available.

1 Development of Training Materials for Service Engineers;

2 Optimization of production of solar kerosene;

3 Upscaling AEM electrolyser technology.

1 Development of Training Materials for Service Engineers

Suitable for BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Mechatronics

Are you passionate about technical systems and knowledge transfer? At HyGear, we are looking for a hands-on intern to develop a structured and modular training package for our Service Engineers. You’ll work closely with specialists to transform complex procedures into clear, practical tools for internal training and field use.

Your tasks:
  • Analyze existing systems, documentation, and common maintenance practices;

  • Interview experienced engineers and technical specialists to gather input;

  • Develop training modules (e.g., diagnostic diagrams, safety instructions, visual guides);

  • Test and evaluate materials with a small group and deliver an implementation plan.

2 Optimization of production of solar kerosene

Suitable for BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Sustainable Energy

In the Sun-to Liquid project syngas (H2 + CO) produced by a solar reactor is used in a Fischer-Tropsch reactor designed by HyGear to produce kerosene. The intern will perform tests on the existing reactor setup on HyGears test field to study the hydrocarbon production (quantitative and qualitative) as function of the reaction conditions (syngas composition, temperature and pressure. The results is an optimized reactor and set of conditions to generate sustainable kerosene.

Your tasks:
  • Prepare test plan, describing the pathway to an optimal reactor setup;

  • Perform tests described in test plan;

  • Develop autonomous operation of the installation;

  • Write report with recommendations for operation of the Fischer-Tropsch plant.

3 Upscaling AEM electrolyser technology

Suitable for BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Mechatronics

In the HyScale project, hydrogen production by an electrolyser based on Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) technology is developed. Part of the development is the Life cycle analysis (LCA) of the technology. In the internship various configurations of a 10 MW AEM electolyser will be evaluated by process modelling and component analyses. The output is an optimised configuration with suitable input for the LCA.

Your tasks:
  • Create process models of 10MW electrolyser configurations;

  • Analyse energy use, waste production per kg of produced Hydrogen;

  • Select and analyse suitable components for LCA input;

  • Reporting of the most optimal 10 MW configuration.

Who are you?
  • BSc / MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Sustainable Energy, Chemical Engineering, or Technical Business Administration;

  • Interested in industrial systems and maintenance processes;

  • Communicatively strong and detail-oriented with a feel for didactics;

  • Experience with PowerPoint, Visio, or CAD is a plus

What do we offer?
  • Working with technology pioneers of the energy transition;
