Data Architect - Lead Cloud Migration & Platform Design

We are looking for an experienced Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of a new cloud-based data platform. You will play a key role in migrating from existing systems to a scalable, well-governed environment built on Azure and Databricks. The position is based in the Rotterdam region and follows a hybrid working model.

A globally operating organization in a regulated sector, with a strong presence in the Netherlands. The company is currently undergoing a data transformation initiative, modernizing its data infrastructure to support better insights, security, and governance. The work environment is collaborative, international, and hybrid by design, with a strong emphasis on long-term architecture and cross-functional alignment.

As Data Architect, you will lead the design, rollout, and continuous improvement of the organization’s cloud-native data architecture. You will be responsible for platform decisions, governance design, and the migration of data environments — including the move from Snowflake to Databricks. Working closely with engineering and business teams, you will ensure that the data platform is secure, scalable, and aligned with both technical and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing a cloud-based data warehouse architecture (Azure, Databricks)

• Leading the migration from legacy systems such as Snowflake

• Establishing and maintaining governance frameworks around data quality, security, and compliance

• Collaborating with stakeholders to translate business needs into architectural decisions

• Providing technical leadership to the data engineering team

• Staying up to date with industry developments in cloud data infrastructure

• 5+ years of experience in data architecture or related technical leadership roles

• Strong experience with Azure, Databricks, SQL, DBT, and modern ELT/ETL practices

• Solid understanding of data modeling, integration patterns, and data governance principles

• Experience working in international and cross-functional environments

• Proficiency in English and Dutch (minimum B1 level)

• Valid EU work permit or permanent residence in the Netherlands

• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with both technical and business stakeholders

• Gross monthly salary between €4.300 and €6.200, depending on experience
