Android Engineer | Kotlin | Java | Contracting

As an Android Engineer, you will work on the continued development of mobile applications for smart home security. You will work with both an existing Java codebase and a modern Kotlin application. This means combining the improvement and maintenance of legacy software with the development of new functionality. You will actively contribute to technical decisions and help ensure that the applications remain reliable, scalable and user-friendly.

Your work will include technologies such as the Android View System, XML layouts and modern architectural principles including Clean Architecture and MVVM. You will also work with technologies such as Dagger Hilt, Navigation Component and various Firebase services. Location functionality, geofencing and real-time communication may also be part of your responsibilities.

As part of the Scrum team, you will take ownership of features from design through to delivery. You will write and maintain unit tests, contribute to UI and end-to-end testing, and support CI/CD processes using tools including Fastlane, Firebase App Distribution and SonarCloud. You will work closely with colleagues while having the freedom to independently tackle technical challenges and implement improvements.

1. Experience as an Android Developer or Android Engineer
2. Strong knowledge of Kotlin and Java
3. Experience maintaining legacy Java code and developing in Kotlin
4. Experience with the Android View System and XML layouts
5. Knowledge of Clean Architecture and MVVM
6. Experience with Dagger Hilt and Navigation Component
7. Experience with Android Location APIs and Geofencing
8. Practical experience with Firebase, including Crashlytics, Analytics, Cloud Messaging (FCM) and Firebase App Distribution
9. Experience with unit testing using JUnit and Mockito or MockK
10. Experience with Git, preferably Bitbucket
11. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment

PREFERRED:

1. Experience with product flavors, build variants and application theming for white-label apps
2. Experience with WebRTC
3. Knowledge of Firebase Firestore and Cloud Functions
4. Experience with Espresso
5. Experience with IoT or hardware integrations within Android, such as BLE and device pairing
6. Experience working with both legacy and greenfield applications
7. Affinity with smart home, IoT or home security
