To expand our network, we are looking for experienced automotive technicians who wish to perform pre-purchase inspections for us on a freelance (self-employed) basis.
The Role
As a freelance inspector, you will assess the technical condition of a car on location prior to purchase. You will identify hidden defects, damage history, and mechanical problems — think of recognizing previously deployed airbags, manipulated mileage, and other issues that a layperson might miss. You work according to a fixed procedure, know the specific points of attention per make and model, and deliver a clear and substantiated inspection report upon completion. Where desired, you will also conduct negotiations regarding the car on behalf of the client.
You decide for yourself which assignments to accept and when. Assignments are irregular, averaging a few times a week, spread throughout the Netherlands.

What will you be doing?
- Performing pre-purchase inspections on location at sellers and car dealerships
- Assess the technical and visual condition of the car, including test drive and computer diagnostics (OBD)
- Detecting hidden damage, defects, and irregularities
- Prepare a clear inspection report for the customer
- Conduct negotiations on behalf of the client where necessary
- Extensive experience with cars and strong technical knowledge
- Experience with (or the willingness to learn to work with) advanced computer diagnostic equipment
- Own transport and a valid driver's license (you will travel to various locations throughout the Netherlands)
- Own tools and diagnostic equipment
- Registered with the Chamber of Commerce as a self-employed professional
- Presentable and a strong communicator — you are CarMate's calling card to salespeople.
- Preferably a good command of Dutch. International candidates with a strong technical background and good English are also welcome to apply.
- A fee per inspection + travel allowance
- Complete flexibility: you decide when and whether to accept an assignment.
