Mediahuis is looking for a Freelance AI Native Engineer to help build and operate our internal AI platform. You’ll develop secure, scalable services that connect AI models, tools and workflows across our organization, with a strong focus on identity, governance and automation.

As a Freelance AI Native Engineer you’ll help shapethetechnological foundation thatenables Mediahuis teams touse AI securelyandefficiently. You’llbuilddistributed services, integratelanguagemodelsandexternal tools, andensurethatidentity, security andgovernance are embeddedthroughoutthe platform. Yourworkwilldirectlycontributeto making AI accessible, reliableandscalableacross Mediahuis.

• DevelopingandmaintainingourAI platform, primarilyusing Go, with a focus on distributed services, event-drivenarchitectureandmessage-basedcommunication.

• Building secure AI integrations, connectingLLM providers, self-hostedmodelsandexternal tools throughAPIsandthe Model Context Protocol (MCP).

• Implementingidentityandgovernancemechanisms, including OAuth2, OIDC, secrets management, audit loggingand policy-based access controls.

• Enablingself-servicecapabilities, allowinginternal teams toconnecttheirown tools, workflowsand AI agents without requiring direct interventionfromthe platform team.

• Developingandoptimizing model infrastructure, integrating multiple AI providersandself-hostedmodelswhileconsidering performance, costand data sensitivity.

• Managing deploymentsand platform operations, including Linux containers, configuration management, release processes, monitoring androllback procedures.

• Contributingtoarchitectureandtechnicaldecisions, documenting designs anddecisionsthrough Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) andensuring consistent engineering standards.

• Collaborating withinternal stakeholders, integratingthe platform with workflow automation, desktop assistantsandother business applications.

You'llwork in a hybrid setup, withat leasttwodays per week at ourAntwerp office, collaborating closelywithcolleaguesacross Mediahuis.

What's on your CV, is important but is by no means theonlything we attachimportanceto. You're a medior or senior engineer withsolid experience in backend development anddistributed systems, preferablyusingGo (Golang). Youunderstandhow event-drivenarchitecturesandmessage-based services operate in productionand have experience withauthenticationand security technologiessuch as OAuth2, OIDC, token management andencryption. You'refamiliarwith Linux environments, containers and modern deploymentpractices. Ideally, you'vealreadyworkedwith LLM APIs, tool calling, streaming or MCP integrations. Youenjoy translating technical designs intoreliableproductionsolutions, documentingarchitecturaldecisionsandtakingownership of yourworkfrom design to delivery. You'reanalytical, structuredandcomfortableworking in a small, autonomous engineering team. Youcommunicateeffectively in both Dutch and English.

Experience with GPU-based model serving, workflow automation, observability, audit pipelines or platform engineering is consideredanadditional asset.

Within a small, specialized engineering team, you'll help developandoperatetheinternalAI platformthatenables teams across Mediahuis tosecurely access languagemodels, tools and AI agents. The team worksaccordingtocleararchitecturalprinciples, with a strong emphasis on documentation, ownership, automationandoperational excellence. You'll have the opportunity tocontributeto a technicallychallenging platform thatplaysan important role in Mediahuis' broader AI ambitions.
