Volledige vacaturetekst

  • You turn complex atmospheric data into high-stakes, real-time operational decisions.

  • A hybrid role combining meteorology, coding, and statistical modeling.

  • Your forecasts are business-critical—used live by energy traders and system operators.

What you’ll do

As a Meteorologic Forecaster within Eneco’s Forecast Product Development team, you will have a pivotal role in developing and improving the weather-driven forecasting models that directly support our intraday and day-ahead trading desks. You’ll help us better understand how different weather patterns and data sources affect our energy portfolios, and you’ll help translate this into actionable insights. This role is about more than just accuracy—it’s about improving our Profit & Loss (P&L), reducing imbalance risks, and building forecasting products that give our traders the edge they need to respond quickly and effectively to ever-changing market conditions.
Together with experienced analysts, meteorologists, and data scientists, you’ll create the tools that shape the core of our commercial strategies.

You’ll be responsible for

•    Researching and analyzing the influence of weather on our trading portfolio—especially using NWP models and emerging AI-based data sources.
•    Developing and improving short-term forecast products tailored to the needs of our trading desks.
•    Collaborating with traders to translate weather insights into actionable tradable positions and actionable insights.
•    Proactively identifying and mitigating P&L and imbalance risk through innovative forecasting.
•    Acting as a sparring partner for operations and maintaining strong communication across departments.
•    Contributing to a forward-looking strategy where weather forecast accuracy and market correlation are balanced for optimal impact.
•    Exploring new forecasting methodologies and contributing to the long-term forecasting roadmap.

Is this about you?

•    You have a solid background in meteorology, preferably with a focus on short-term forecasting.
•    You’re fluent in Python and familiar with key data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
•    You have at least 3 years of experience in a meteorological or energy forecasting role—ideally in or closely related to energy markets or trading.
•    You’re curious, collaborative, and love working at the intersection of science, tech, and business.
•    You thrive in dynamic environments where priorities shift fast, and you take initiative when it counts.
•    Experience with tooling such as Databricks, Docker, Azure Cloud, Airflow, or MLOps is a strong plus.
•    Strong communication skills—you enjoy being a link between technical teams and commercial decision-makers.

This is where you’ll work

Behind six screens you'll find Eneco's balanced, analytically strong decision-makers. The Energy Trading Desk is the heartbeat of the operation: a high-impact, high-focus environment where portfolio components come together and real-time decisions are made. It’s the portal to the outside world, where we negotiate with exchanges, energy suppliers, and banks.
You’ll be working side by side with analysts, traders and engineers to ensure Eneco delivers the right amount of energy, every single day.
Our collaborative and technically advanced environment ensures you have all the tools to experiment, iterate, and improve forecasting models that directly influence P&L outcomes and trading success.
