Junior Customs Specialist

(Full-time, 38 hours a week)

Customs plays a key role in Action’s international growth. Our Customs team ensures a high-quality, fast and efficient customs process for our import containers, helping to keep our stores stocked and our operations running smoothly. In addition to imports, the team also manages daily exports to stores outside the European Union, ensuring all formalities are completed correctly and on time.

To support this growing team, we are looking for a Junior Customs Specialist - someone who is eager to learn, motivated to grow, and curious about the world of customs. You don’t need extensive experience, but you do need strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and a desire to become an expert in customs processes. We’ll help you get there with on-the-job training and the opportunity to follow professional customs education.

Your daily tasks

As a Junior Customs Specialist, you will support the team in handling customs formalities for the import, transit, and export of goods. You’ll work closely with internal departments and external partners, and gradually take on more responsibility as you grow in the role.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with customs documentation and formalities
  • Supporting classification and record-keeping of goods
  • Communicating with internal teams, like Buying, Logistics, Finance, Compliance
  • Helping with claims, refund requests, and customs duty checks
  • Participating in improvement projects and learning about customs authorizations
  • Supporting customs compliance and process documentation
  • Collaborating with external service providers and customs authorities
What you offer
  • A Bachelor’s or MBO degree in logistics, business economics, trade or a related field
  • Strong interest in customs and international trade
  • Willingness to follow customs training (e.g. Declarant or Consultant)
  • Good communication skills in Dutch and English (spoken and written)
  • Experience with Excel and basic analytical skills
  • A proactive, accurate, and service-oriented mindset
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within a dynamic team
What we offer

At Action, you’ll have an impact on millions of customers across Europe from our bustling headquarters in Zwaagdijk-Oost. Our growth means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop professionally, whether through new roles, innovation projects, or training.

You can also count on:

  • A competitive salary based on a 38-hour week
  • 24 days' holiday with the option to buy five additional days (based on 38 hours per week)
  • A temporary contract with the intention of offering you a permanent contract in the long term
  • A 15% staff discount on your purchases at Action
  • A good pension scheme, collective health insurance and travel expenses allowance. Zwaagdijk-Oost can be reached from Amsterdam by car in just 30 minutes on uncongested roads

How we contribute to society

If you only know Action from our stores, a new world will open up for you when you join us. As an example, we're working hard to make a positive impact on society and the environment. Did you know that we sponsor more than 2,500 children worldwide who are growing up in an SOS Children's Village? Or that our team reflects the diversity of our customers, representing 155 nationalities? Or that 94% of our wood products and 100% of our cotton already come from sustainable sources? Or that almost all of our stores only use energy-efficient LED lighting and do not consume natural gas? Yes, that's Action, too. If you're curious about what else we're doing, take action and see for yourself!
