Haskoning is a worldwide operating consultancy and engineering firm with Dutch roots. In the field of wastewater treatment, we provide a diverse spectrum of services and products for our clients. Besides our typical consultancy and engineering profile we are also a technology provider for more cost-effective and sustainable water treatment technologies. We develop and provide technologies for the main treatment process, sludge handling and post-treatment for far-reaching nutrient and micropollutant removal.

Together with the department of Environmental Technology of the Wageningen University we developed the Aurea® technology for the removal of micropollutants (pharmaceutical residues, pesticides etc.) from wastewater. In this two-stage process biological treatment and chemical oxidation are combined. The synergy between the two processes results in an energy-efficient technology for the far-reaching removal of a broad array of micropollutants.

The internship concerns operating and performing experiments in a lab-scale activated carbon filter, representing the first step on the Aurea® technology. The starting date of the internship is in October/November 2025. The experiments are conducted at our Technology Research Center at the office in Amersfoort. Under supervision of an enthusiastic team of the advisory group Wastewater at Haskoning you will be responsible for collecting wastewater effluent (on a weekly basis) from the municipal WWTP of Amersfoort, running the filters, performing experiments, collecting and analysing results.

We are looking for an intern who has a driver’s license valid in the Netherlands, lives in the Netherlands and is enrolled at a university.

Moreover, you can work independently, likes to do both practical and desk work and has an affinity with (waste)water technology. In-depth knowledge of wastewater treatment is preferred but not obligatory, a healthy mindset and the motivation to go for it is a must.
