What will you do as a Project Developer - Battery Energy Storage?

As a Project Developer - Battery Energie Storage, you are a crucial member of the team responsible for developing Vopak's portfolio of Battery Energy Storage projects. You will be responsible for taking projects from an initial idea through the Front-End Loading (FEL) stages of the Vopak Project Management (VPM) methodology. Your primary goal is to develop a robust business case and select the right project solution to successfully bring projects to a Final Investment Decision (FID).

Your focus will be on the successful integration of high-voltage, utility-scale battery projects within Vopak's existing liquid bulk storage sites. This requires close alignment with local site management to ensure that new assets are developed in a way that complements and enhances our existing terminal operations. You will be based in our global headquarters in Rotterdam but will be expected to work closely with our sites in Belgium, particularly in the Port of Antwerp.

What do we expect / profile:

• Master’s degree in Business or Engineering

• A minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience in project development within the energy sector

• Proven track record of successfully bringing capital-intensive energy projects from concept to Final Investment Decision (FID)

• Experience in aligning with local site management and operational teams to ensure the successful integration of new projects within existing industrial (brownfield) sites

• Strong understanding of project development processes, preferably with a stage-gate methodology similar to the Vopak Project Management (VPM) standard

• Familiarity with high-voltage infrastructure and the technical requirements for integrating battery projects into existing industrial locations

• Knowledge of European energy markets, with a focus on the Netherlands and Belgium.

• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills

• Entrepreneurial mindset and results-driven approach

• Fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in Dutch is a strong asset

• Willingness to work from the Port of Antwerp up to two days per week

• Experience in discussions with permitting authorities is not required but is considered a plus

Core Responsibilities:

• Project Initiation & Business Case Development: Initiate new battery storage projects by preparing the Project Request and developing a compelling business case that aligns with Vopak's strategic goal

• FEL Stage Leadership: Lead projects through the VPM Identification and Selection stages developing and evaluating multiple scenarios to select the best base case for the project

• Investment Proposal Preparation: Prepare and deliver high-quality Preliminary Investment Proposals (PIP), Strategic Investment Proposals (SIP) and Final Investment Decision (FID) to secure funding and formal approval for subsequent project stages

• Stakeholder Alignment: Ensure close alignment with local site management (the "Internal Customer" in VPM) the Project Manager, and other stakeholders to define a solid project scope and facilitate the smooth integration of high-voltage battery projects into Vopak's sites

• Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks during the early development stages to ensure the overall viability and success of the business case

• Transition to Definition: Collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure a seamless handover of the project as it moves into the Definition stage, readying it for basic design and final FID preparation
