Formulation Scientist (Small Molecules / Injectable & Liquid Formulations)

Beerse, Belgium – 12-Month Contract (Extension Possible)

Job Description

As a PLD Formulation Scientist, you will join the Parenterals & Liquids Development (PLD) department within Pharmaceutical Product Development & Supply (PPDS) in Beerse, Belgium.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of advanced drug delivery technology, contributing directly to formulation design, process development, and technology transfer for innovative small molecule therapies in (pre)clinical stages. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary experts, combining hands-on lab work with strategic input on process optimization, scale-up, and regulatory documentation—advancing patient-centric drug delivery solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute formulation and process development activities for innovative parenteral and liquid dosage forms across the R&D Synthetics portfolio.
• Design and develop formulations; conduct hands-on laboratory work and record results in electronic lab notebooks and reports.
• Drive formulation and process design from preclinical through clinical phases, contributing to product and process optimization.
• Perform literature and patent reviews to identify innovation opportunities and translate scientific advancements into practical drug delivery solutions.
• Support preparation of master batch records, criticality assessments, and control strategies for clinical manufacturing.
• Contribute to regulatory documentation (CTD, IMPD, and source documents) and respond to scientific inquiries from health authorities.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal partners in Pharmaceutical & Material Sciences, Analytical Development, Engineering, Quality, Legal, and Supply Chain, as well as with external partners and CDMOs.
• Maintain a strong safety culture and scientific rigor within the laboratory.

Essential Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or Chemical Engineering.
• 2–4 years’ experience in parenteral and liquid formulation and process development for synthetic drug compounds (small molecules).
• Proven understanding of physical pharmacy and particle engineering principles.
• Hands-on experience with aseptic/sterile processes, milling/nanonization, and lyophilization techniques.
• Background in advanced drug delivery technologies (e.g., nanosuspensions, biodegradable microspheres, liposomes, gels, or injectable rods) is advantageous.
