Do you combine strong financial expertise with a sharp understanding of the business? As European Controller at Ashworth, you are responsible for Finance across the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Your focus goes beyond accounting: you analyse performance, challenge margins and cost prices, advise the business and translate European results into clear US GAAP reporting. A broad, international role for an experienced finance professional who enjoys being close to both the numbers and the business.
As European Controller at Ashworth, you are financially responsible for the activities in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Your scope covers five Dutch B.V.s and the UK Ltd.An experienced team takes care of the accounting, while you maintain the overview, ensure the quality of the numbers and turn financial information into insights for the business. You report to the U.S. headquarters. This means ensuring that the European entities meet their local statutory requirements while reporting to the U.S. organisation in accordance with US GAAP.
Your responsibilities include
- Leading the monthly, quarterly and annual closing and reporting processes
- Delivering accurate and timely US GAAP reporting to the U.S. headquarters
- Ensuring compliance with Dutch and UK statutory requirements
- Managing the internal control framework and monitoring compliance with corporate policies
- Acting as the finance contact for audits and coordinating with accounting firms
- Leading the European budgeting and forecasting process
- Analysing results, variances, margins, cost prices and profitability
- Developing and monitoring KPIs and identifying trends, risks and opportunities
- Advising management on financial and business performance
- Monitoring liquidity, cash forecasting and working capital
- Managing transfer pricing topics
- Supporting and challenging the business on commercial and operational decisions
- Providing financial expertise on larger projects, commercial issues and customer disputes when required
- Supporting potential acquisitions together with the worldwide Sales Director
- Driving consistency, process improvement and further professionalisation across the European organisation
You are close to the business, understand what drives profitability and use the numbers to help colleagues make better decisions.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s level of working and thinking, preferably in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
- Approximately 8-12 years of relevant experience in Finance and/or Controlling
- Experience within an international organisation, preferably with a U.S.-based parent company
- Knowledge of US GAAP and an understanding of Dutch and UK statutory requirements
- Experience with business controlling, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and internal control
- Experience with transfer pricing and working across multiple legal entities
- A strong understanding of margins, cost prices and profitability
- Leadership experience and the ability to work with an experienced, independently operating team
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent in Dutch and English
- The seniority and cultural awareness to operate effectively within an international matrix organisation
- Willingness to travel between Borne, Amsterdam and the UK and occasionally to the USA

Opportunities lie in further developing the Jonge Poerink Conveyor business as well as expanding Ashworth’s activities in the UK and the wider European market.The organisation employs approximately 250 people worldwide.
Your team
You work with an experienced team that independently takes care of the day-to-day financial administration. Two finance colleagues in the UK report to you, alongside four colleagues in the Netherlands, who are responsible for areas including financial administration, IT and payroll.You operate in an international matrix organisation and report to the USA. Experience with an American organisation is therefore particularly valuable. You know how to communicate internationally and build strong relationships across countries and cultures.Borne is the preferred base for the position, although Amsterdam can also be considered. The international scope means you will regularly be on the move: approximately once/twice a month to Amsterdam, once every two months to the UK and an annual trip to the USA.
