Are you passionate about DevOps and automation? Do you want to help reduce the risk of delivering faulty software to some of the world’s largest airports, like Hong Kong, Schiphol, and Heathrow?
 

At Vanderlande, we are the global market leader in airport baggage handling software, and we’re looking for an intern to help us automate quality verification in our CI/CD pipeline. Our software powers critical systems at major airports, and ensuring its quality is essential.
 

Currently, our Definition of Done (DoD) checks are performed manually across various modules in our Airport VIBES platform. This process is time-consuming and error-prone, and it limits our ability to release software instantly and confidently.
 

Your challenge will be to:

•              Investigate how to automate DoD verification across multiple data sources.

•              Develop Python scripts to validate quality attributes.

•              Notify module owners when checks fail.

•              Ensure the solution is scalable and maintainable across all modules.
 

Research Question:
"What parameters in our data sources need to be monitored or changed to fully automate the verification of Definition of Done, and how can we effectively communicate the outcomes to module owners?"
 

You’ll be joining the DevOps team (5 members) within the VIBES Core Agile Release Train (ART), a group of around 80 developers building the VIBES platform used in airport baggage handling systems worldwide. You’ll be part of the Airports Domain, within the Software Development department of the Technology business unit at Vanderlande. You’ll participate in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) Agile rituals, collaborate across teams, and gain hands-on experience with real-world DevOps practices.

• Assess stakeholder requirements and define parameters for verifying data sources.
• Research and validate data across multiple systems to support automated quality checks.
• Design and implement a scalable solution using Python (or Java).
• Develop scripts to automate Definition of Done (DoD) verification.
• Integrate the solution into the CI/CD pipeline using Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bamboo, Artifactory, GitHub).
• Create clear documentation and instructions for adapting data sources based on findings.
• Demonstrate the solution to teams and stakeholders through a functional demo.
• Ensure security and robustness of the solution.

• Python scripting experience; Java knowledge
• Familiarity with REST APIs
• Experience with Atlassian tools: Artifactory, Bamboo, JIRA (Atlassian Tool suite), Confluence, GitHub, etc
• Software Developer with an eye to quality
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines
• Interest in Agile development and DevOps
• Strong analytical and collaborative mindset
• *Mandatory enrolment to a Dutch Education System & resident of The Netherlands.
