As a Senior Data Scientist in Transaction Monitoring, you can have a social impact by detecting criminal behavior through analytical models that analyze Rabobank transactions for over 8 million customers.

Preventing Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing is crucial for our society and our organization. As a bank, we play a major role in this area. To effectively fight financial crime, we need smart individuals like you who thrive on exploring data, recognizing patterns, and understanding customer behavior to uncover illegal activities. Together with your team, you'll be responsible for optimizing our current rule-based Transaction Monitoring (TM) system and, eventually (though not immediately), introducing more advanced analytical methodologies such as Machine Learning into our TM models.

This job requires statistical knowledge, an analytical mindset, and practical operational expertise. When done successfully, you’ll enable our analysts to focus on true positive alerts, allowing them to dedicate their time to truly value-adding activities. In essence, you will be on the front line in the fight against financial crime.

• Develop, analyze, and build rules in multi-disciplinary teams for our TM models that successfully uncover patterns related to illegal activities.
• Identify new data sources for the rule-based models and implement them, working closely with functional experts to make appropriate model choices.
• Discuss long-term ideas with upper management, leveraging your comprehensive understanding of our entire TM analytics landscape and your considerable experience in bringing analytics models to production.

1. Be responsible for significant parts of our data science models, which includes model design, high-quality code, and alignment with adjacent fields (IT, Architecture, Business) to ensure a robust path to production for our data science models.
2. Anticipate and identify potential future challenges stemming from model choices and guide the team in addressing these challenges effectively (such as by leading brainstorm sessions or proposing solutions yourself).
3. Support your medior and junior colleagues in utilizing best practices and maintaining a consistent approach across the team.

Start Date: As soon as possible, depending on profile availability; otherwise, the start date is 05-01-2026.

Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension based on suitability.

Hours: 36 hours per week.

Fixed Office Days: Monday and Thursday.

Language: English; Dutch is not mandatory.

Jij en jouw talent

• Academische graad (MSc / PhD) in Data Science, Econometrie, Wiskunde of een verwant vakgebied.
• 5+ jaar ervaring in geavanceerde analyses, modellering en activiteiten op het gebied van kunstmatige intelligentie (idealiter met grote datasets) met Python, PySpark en Spark (ervaring met Azure Databricks is een plus).
• Bewezen succes in het in productie brengen van analytische modellen.
• Uitstekende mondelinge en schriftelijke communicatievaardigheden in het Engels.

• Gemotiveerd om criminelen te vangen door ons TM-systeem effectiever te maken; met andere woorden, je bent gemotiveerd om modellen te bouwen die meetbare impact voor de bank realiseren, niet per se om de meest complexe geavanceerde analysen modellen te bouwen.
• Gestructureerd, nauwkeurig, communicatief, kan goed samenwerken met verschillende mensen en rollen, proactief, heeft een zakelijke focus en een kan-doen mentaliteit om het verschil te maken in de strijd tegen financiële criminaliteit.
• Bloeit in een omgeving met hoge impact, dynamisch en snel (ervaring met Agile werken is een plus).

Working conditions: This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
