Senior Project Engineer - EX Lead

Equipment that goes into a hazardous area has to be right first time, on paper and in the field. For a large offshore engineering project run from Rotterdam, our client, a leading international offshore energy company, needs one person who makes sure it is: an experienced senior project engineer who owns explosion-protection compliance from the first specification to the last installed item.

This is a specialist position. If you have spent years in oil and gas project engineering and know the world of Ex-certified equipment inside out, this is a chance to be the go-to authority on a project of real scale.

What you'll be doing:
Setting the standard

• Write and keep the project's Ex specification up to date and the plan that shows how Ex compliance will be assured.
• Make sure the same Ex rules flow down into every subcontract and its technical appendices.

Keeping control

• Build the project's Ex tracking register together with a dedicated data coordinator, so that project management gets the follow-up and reporting it needs in every phase.
• Publish an accurate Ex status overview and dashboard each month.
• Act as the link between engineering disciplines and project phases on everything related to Ex.

Working across the supply chain

• Brief procurement leads so that vendors price and propose Ex requirements correctly, and take part in the technical review of their bids.
• Do the same with construction managers for fabrication yards and construction contractors, from their proposals through to bid evaluation.
• Oversee vendor Ex compliance as part of project quality assurance: review inspection findings and follow up on gaps and open questions.
• Work with the construction quality team and the on-site Ex lead to check that yards and subcontractors translate the Ex and equipment specifications properly into their own documents.

In short, you keep an eye on Ex across engineering, supply chain and construction, and you are the one who answers for it.

Gevraagd

• A Bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Around 10 years in project engineering in the oil and gas industry. We are open to strong candidates at both Project Engineer and Senior Project Engineer level.
• Hands-on experience with Ex compliance for equipment in hazardous areas.
• A feel for the commercial side of projects: spotting contractual changes, keeping costs and budget under control, managing subcontractors and third parties, negotiating, planning and managing risk.
• Confidence with project management tools and software.
• A precise, analytical way of working, combined with the leadership to make decisions and get others on board.
• Clear communication skills and an easy way of working with colleagues from many disciplines.
• You live in the Netherlands and can work from the Rotterdam office three days a week.

Nice to have: working knowledge of the ATEX and IECEx frameworks.
