Since 2019 the Process Automation Platform provides the target platform for all Pega applications globally (40+ Countries). The purpose of our department is to productize our process automation capabilities and share this with the rest of ING worldwide. Due to a dynamic market, ING has a greater demand for digitalization with more process automation and increased reuse, therefore our role as a global platform is crucial to accelerate this vision as we are at the core of process automation.

The team
The office is located in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. It’s up to you to whether you want to work from our office every day or if you prefer the hybrid way. Occasionally you will travelabroad for project related activities, knowledge build-up and getting to know your team from different locations. You will develop, implement and maintain the product in an Agile and DevOps way. As ING we believe in people over processes and aim for comradery.

Roles and responsibilities

The vision of the Process Automation Platform is to take away the heavy lifting from our consumer engineers. To do so we empower our consumers to automate their digital processes by:

2: One globally reachable and scalable infrastructure

3: One set of common components to build our propositions.

Do you fit the picture?

As Chapter Lead you will lead and inspire approximately 15 engineers in different locations around the world. You’ll enable your engineers to grow their mastery and you lead by example. Your main task is to enable your engineers to grow their mastery and get better in what they do every day by using industry best practices, but also having the lead role to set up these best practices, standards and using the latest methodologies in software development. With your team you ensure that the platform stays reliable, resilient and scalable. Operational excellence, reuse, continuous improvement, automation and customer focus is part of your DNA. In the other part of your time, as a lead engineer, you set the example, share your knowledge, drive innovation, voice your opinion and deliver as a member of our tribe by being responsible of some of our strategic initiatives. You dislike technical depth, and you want to reduce toil by automation. You see regulatory requirements as an opportunity to improve the landscape and when the things get tough you step in and show your leadership skills. As part of the leadership team, you are not afraid to voice your opinion and contribute to strategic initiatives set.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Smoothly Operating the Platform: Running and maintaining all the instances of ING’s Global Process Automation Platform, taking care of the ITIL processes and the operational excellence of those, by keeping the Platform highly reliable, available and safe for all our consumers around the globe according to agreed targets and standards( IT risk, LCM, migrations, Incident and problem management, consumer inquiries, Monitoring, change management, etc)
  • Building your team and taking care of their personal growth.
  • Setting up and keep engineering practices and the way of working in the squads on the high level, guiding designs and technical solutions (Technical Lead).
  • Keep connection with consumers & stakeholders to make sure squads are “building the right thing”
  • Keep operation and automation model secure and compliant with Infra / CISO guidelines
  • Own overall delivery of activities in scope– plan, implement, test, release, measure, gather feedback, adapt, escalate.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Platform strategy. Translate the strategy in terms of the Chapter
  • People management activities: hiring, performance appraisal, workforce strategy and budgeting, etc

How to succeed

  • Very strong delivery & leadership track record (8+ years)
  • Very strong knowledge on running Infra and IT Operations teams in a highly available, secure and complex environment
  • Experience of working in financial organizations / highly regulated environments, dealing with requirements from Enterprise Architecture, Information Security and Risk
  • Strong knowledge of software design, patterns and engineering practices
  • Extensive knowledge on VM’s (RedHat) and Public Cloud.
  • Experience in observability tools as ELK, Prometheus, Grafana.
  • Experience with tools as Azure DevOps, K8s,Terraform, Ansible, OpenShift ,ARM
  • Knowledge on RDBMS, preferably Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  • Understand regulatory requirements of a highly available system to a full extent.
  • Experience in Pega is a plus.
