Position Overview
As Senior Fundraiser at the Wildlife Justice Commission, you will play a crucial role in securing financial support from major donors and foundations based in Europe for a rapidly expanding nonprofit organization with global operations and offices in the United States of America, the European Union, and Thailand. Your primary responsibility will be to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing donors, ensuring their engagement with our mission and impact.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Implement Fundraising Strategies:
  • Devise and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies for major donors and foundations in Europe, primarily in the Netherlands as part of an integrated approach across the WJC network.
  • Identify and prioritise potential donors aligned with the organisation's mission.
  1. Cultivate Donor Relationships:
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with major donors and foundation representatives, including pro-active account management with the National Postcode Lottery.
  • Organise and participate in meetings, events, and briefings to keep the donor circle informed and engaged.
  1. Proposal Development:
  • Collaborate with program and communication teams to create compelling proposals and reports for donors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of proposals and donor reports, tracking progress and outcomes.
  1. Research and Prospect Management:
  • Conduct thorough research on potential major donors and foundations.
  • Contribute to a comprehensive donor database, tracking interactions and donations.
  1. Donor Stewardship:
  • Develop and implement stewardship plans to engage and cultivate existing donor relationships with the aim to strengthen their support and enhance their contribution.
  • Keep donors informed about the impact of their contributions through regular written and in-person updates. Provide project reports and / or progress reports to donors.
  1. Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the global development team, communications team and liaison to the programmatic team to develop materials that effectively communicate the organisation's mission, results and impact in alignment with donor requirements and expectations, including informal updates and donor reporting.
  • Collaborate with other (international) fundraising team members to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach across the Wildlife Justice Commission network and stakeholder environment.
Requirements and qualifications
Knowledge
  • Demonstrated donor account management expertise
  • Proven experience in a similar position in an international organisation or non-profit.
  • Good knowledge of and experience in fundraising for NGOs from foundations and major donors.
  • Good knowledge regarding current development and trends in the non-profit and philanthropy sector in Europe, particularly in The Netherlands.
  • Knowledge and understanding of donor networks and giving practices.
Skills
  • A hands-on attitude and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Affinity with the mission statement of the organisation.
  • Sensitivity in working with a culturally diverse, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
  • Excellent writing and presenting skills in both Dutch and English.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Education and Experience
  • Hold a higher education level degree (HBO/WO or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, with experience in non-profit fundraising, including implementation and/or functional support in business development, donor relationship building and proposal development.
We offer
  • A contract for 32-40 hours per week for a period of 12 months, with possible extension.
  • Hybrid working model at our welcoming office in The Hague, The Netherlands.
