| Your challenges?

As a member of our R&D team with focus on Acoustic Sensor and Sonar Systems, you'll play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge solutions for naval defense while advancing the field of acoustics research. Whether you're interested in protecting naval vessels from threats like torpedoes and underwater drones, designing novel ultrasonic measurement equipment, or exploring the practical implications of acoustics in various domains, this role offers a diverse and exciting set of challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Development: Collaborate with a motivated team of software engineers to develop C++ software applications for use on naval vessels. Ensure adherence to strict quality standards (TRL-8) and long-term maintainability requirements, contributing to the continuous modernization of the Dutch fleet.

Systems Engineering: Design, model, and experimentally validate novel ultrasonic measurement equipment. Contribute to the development of acoustic measurement algorithms and signal processing techniques, leveraging your technical expertise to meet the needs of customers across different application domains.

Applied Research and Development: Engage in multiple R&D projects spanning from theoretical exploration to field equipment development. Use your problem-solving skills and creative mindset to develop innovative solutions that address the practical needs of customers and end-users.

Collaboration and Communication: Foster cooperation with colleagues within the department and across different units within TNO. Contribute to a casual and informal atmosphere where professional development is encouraged, sharing your unique views, ideas, and questions to keep the team sharp.

| What do we expect from you?

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in relevant technical fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Geophysics.
• Proficiency in C++ programming and software development methodologies.
• Experience with software configuration management, extensive testing practices, and systems engineering principles.
• Affinity with applied R&D and understanding of practical implications in technical decision-making.
• Experience with ultrasonic/acoustic experiments, measurement system design, and modeling is a plus.
