Design & Proposal Engineer

Are you an experienced engineer with a maritime background and a commercial mindset? And would you like to be responsible for different designs & proposals for the most complex -operating- vessels around? This might be the opportunity you’re looking for.
Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam is an independent maritime engineering company focusing on concept and basic designs. With our three engineering departments (vessel design & conversion, equipment design & upgrades and operational engineering) we’re able to provide complete design packages for a wide range of projects in various maritime markets. This relates to markets like dredging, subsea, offshore wind, renewables and heavy lifting. Currently, we’re looking for a design & proposal engineer who will be responsible for the technical sales process for these design packages. You’ll be involved in different stages of the project, where you’ll be working on concepts and designs till the final quotation and proposal towards our clients. Unique in this job is the wide variety of the maritime markets were you will be working in.

You will be part of the commercial team, cooperating with our Commercial Director, Technical Sales Managers and Lead/Project Engineers to determine the scope of work, making risk analysis, quotations and estimations, set the right contract conditions up to the final proposal. When the project is being rewarded, you’re responsible to transfer the scope towards the engineering departments. During this process you’ll be in close contact with our clients, and you will visit them on a regular basis.

For this position we’re aiming for someone with a solid (naval) engineering background, experience in concept and (basic) design engineering, who is commercially driven and willing to travel on a regular basis (Within EU frequently, occasionally US).

We can offer a very diverse position, with a wide variety of complex engineering projects, in different maritime markets at the frontend of the maritime industry.

Responsibilities;

• Making and preparing proposals for engineering projects with focus on technical aspects and scope of work;
• Visiting clients (in association with Commercial director, Sales Managers and Lead/Project Engineers ) from own area of expertise;
• Transfer of new projects from sales towards engineering departments and Lead/Project Engineer;
• Monitor projects during engineering phase and being (together with Lead/Project Engineer) point of contact towards the client.
• Increase the market awareness of Vuyk by visiting clients, events, seminars etc.

Your background;

• A BSc. or Msc degree in Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering or comparable;
• 5+ Years of experience in engineering and concept design in the maritime industry;
• 3+ years of experience with commercial stages of a project, as well as contract management and scopes of work;
• Preferable experience in different maritime markets such as; dredging, heavy lifting, offshore wind, etc.
• Well known with class approval authorities and rules & regulations;
• Pro active and good writing and communication skills in both English and Dutch;
